A Word from Canon Warren

ON A REALLY IMPORTANT SUBJECT...

The Pastoral Care system at the Advent has some dimensions of which many are not aware:

(1) Several members of the Advent and I are on the Board of St. Martin's-in-the-Pines. The Episcopal Foundation of Jefferson County owns St. Martin's. As an arm of Advent Pastoral Care, we stay on that Board to assure on-the-floor supervision of the facility's operation, which includes apartment living, assisted living, and skilled nursing and Alzheimer's care. It now also includes at-home care with alarm systems to help alert care-givers to immediate needs. At-home care is an effort to allow people to live longer in their own homes before moving into assisted living. As administrative director of the Advent's Pastoral system, I spend a great deal of time assisting people to get into St. Martin's on one level or another. We also can offer consultants who can guide you through Medicare and Medicaid issues. I am at St. Martin's every week for a full day, and I live two blocks away. I know all the people with influence out there, and I don't mind calling for you, our sheep. We have a number of Advent members living at St. Martin's now. The facility has full-time chaplains along with chapel services and pastoral care. We consider St. Martin's and all it has to offer to be a full extension of the Advent's Pastoral Care system.

(2) We also offer advance planning for funerals. I will sit down with you and help you plan out all the details of the service and funeral home arrangements ahead of time. This takes a great deal of pressure off of your family when you die. It is a great gift to your family, believe me.

There is a Pastoral Care brochure in the kiosk in Clingman Commons. Please get one and look at all of the dimensions of this caring system. Jesus says to feed and care for His sheep. We desire to serve in any way possible to make your life better. Please call my associate Barbara Bess (226-3500) or me (226-3511), and we will help you now and for your future in ways you may not have yet imagined.

Love in Christ,
Joe
